WebP and PNG: two formats, two jobs

WebP is the modern format Google designed for the web: very light, with transparency and animation. PNG is the classic standard for graphics, logos, screenshots and images with transparent backgrounds, and absolutely every program understands it.

Converting WebP to PNG is the best choice when you need to edit the image without losing quality, or when the image has transparency (a logo, an icon, a cut-out product) that you want to keep. Unlike JPG, PNG doesn't fill the background — it stays transparent.

How to convert WebP to PNG

  1. Select or drag your .webp files onto the area above. You can also paste an image from the clipboard.
  2. The conversion is automatic: you'll see the progress and a thumbnail of each result.
  3. Download the PNGs individually or all together with “Download all as ZIP”.

There are no quality settings because PNG is lossless: the result keeps exactly the pixels of the WebP.

When to convert WebP to PNG

  • Graphic design: to use the image in Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, Figma or PowerPoint with full compatibility.
  • Logos and icons with transparency that you'll place on top of other backgrounds.
  • Screenshots and graphics with text: PNG keeps edges crisp.
  • Older software that doesn't recognize WebP.

File size

It's normal for the PNG to be larger than the original WebP, especially for photos: PNG doesn't discard information. If what you need is a small file and the image has no transparency, JPG is the right format — use our WebP to JPG converter. And if you later want a light file for your website again, you can convert PNG back to WebP.

No uploads

Pasafoto converts images inside your browser. No middle-man servers, no queues, and no copy of your files is ever kept. Close the tab and everything is gone.

Tips for logos and icons

Logos downloaded from websites are usually WebP and fairly small. Converting to PNG keeps the transparency but doesn't add resolution: if you need the logo large, ask for the vector version (SVG) and use the SVG to PNG converter to export it at the exact size. To check the transparency survived, open the PNG over a colored background — the empty areas should show that color through. And if you need the brand's exact colors, try the color palette extractor.

Frequently asked questions

Is transparency kept when converting WebP to PNG?

Yes. PNG supports transparency, so the WebP's transparent areas are preserved exactly.

Do I lose quality converting WebP to PNG?

No. PNG is lossless, so the image is saved exactly as it was in the WebP.

Why is the PNG bigger than the WebP?

WebP compresses much more aggressively. PNG stores every pixel, so for photos it is usually several times larger.

Is it free and unlimited?

Yes — free, no sign-up and no file limit.

Are my images uploaded to the internet?

No, they're processed on your own device. Nobody else has access to them.
