Why convert HEIC to PNG?
HEIC is the format the iPhone uses to store photos in very little space. It's efficient, but it is a lossy format with limited compatibility: it's hard to open outside Apple devices, and many design tools, web editors and platforms don't support it.
PNG, on the other hand, is lossless. Every time you save a PNG, the image is kept pixel for pixel, without the artifacts typical of JPG compression. That makes it the go-to choice when a photo is going to be edited: retouching, cropping, collages, adding text or placing it inside a design. Working in PNG stops the quality from degrading every time you export.
How to convert HEIC to PNG in three steps
- Select your HEIC photos with the button or drag them onto the dotted area. Multiple selection is supported.
- Wait while they're processed. The first time, the HEIC reader loads (about 3 MB, which your browser keeps for next time).
- Download the PNGs one at a time or all together in a single ZIP file.
The tool keeps the photo's original orientation and the full camera resolution.
HEIC to PNG or HEIC to JPG?
Choose PNG if you're going to edit the image, need maximum fidelity or will use it inside a design. Choose JPG if you just want to share it, email it or upload it to a website — it will be much smaller. A 12-megapixel photo can weigh 15–25 MB as a PNG versus 2–4 MB as a JPG.
If you need JPG, use our HEIC to JPG converter. And if the resulting PNG is too big, you can reduce its dimensions or compress it.
Why do it in the browser
- Your photos stay yours: nothing is uploaded; everything is processed on your device.
- No software to install and no paid Windows extensions.
- Batch conversion with a progress bar and a preview of each image.
- Works on your phone, including the iPhone itself.
Tips for working with the converted photos
If the photo is going into a design, crop and adjust the PNG first and export to JPG or WebP only at the very end — that way you don't stack up quality losses with every save. If the image is headed for a presentation or document, you don't need the full camera resolution: resizing it to 1600–2000 pixels wide makes the file a fraction of the size and keeps the document light. And if all you want is to open iPhone photos on a Windows PC, JPG is still the most practical and lightweight format.
Frequently asked questions
Is the PNG higher quality than the original HEIC?
It can't have more detail than the original, but it doesn't lose anything either: PNG stores exactly the decoded HEIC image, with no extra lossy compression.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than the HEIC?
Because PNG doesn't throw any information away. A photo going from 2 MB as HEIC to 15–20 MB as PNG is normal. If you need a small file, convert to JPG.
Is it safe to convert HEIC to PNG online here?
Yes. Unlike other converters, Pasafoto never uploads your files: the conversion runs in your browser and nobody else can see them.
Can I convert several HEIC photos to PNG at once?
Yes — select or drag in as many as you like and download them together as a ZIP.
Does it work with Live Photos?
Yes, the still image of the Live Photo is converted. The video part isn't included in the PNG.
