What is the WebP format?
WebP is an image format created by Google to make web pages load faster. It's 25–35% smaller than a JPG of similar quality, and it also supports transparency and animation. That's why most websites, online stores and social networks now serve their images as WebP.
The result: when you save an image from the web, you often end up with a .webp file that won't open in some programs, gets rejected by a form or can't be printed from certain apps. Converting WebP to JPG makes it compatible with everything.
How to convert WebP to JPG, step by step
- Drag your WebP files onto the area above or tap “Choose files”. You can also paste a copied image with Ctrl+V.
- Pick the JPG quality. 90% gives an excellent result; drop to 75–80% if you want very light files.
- Pick the background color. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas in the WebP are filled with white (or any color you choose).
- Download each image or all of them as a ZIP.
Benefits of converting WebP to JPG
- Universal compatibility: JPG opens on any computer, phone, photo editor, printer or platform.
- Easy to edit: older photo and layout programs don't always read WebP.
- No rejected uploads: many forms, job portals and government sites only accept JPG.
What if my WebP has transparency?
If the image has a transparent background (a logo or a cut-out product, for example), that background will be painted with your chosen color when it becomes a JPG. If you want to keep the transparency, use the WebP to PNG converter, which preserves it intact.
Privacy: your images never leave your device
Most online converters upload your files to their servers. Pasafoto doesn't: the conversion uses your browser's own image engine. It's faster, works even on a poor connection and nobody else gets access to your images.
How to stop images from saving as WebP
There's no universal way to force a website to give you a JPG, because the server decides the format. So the quickest route is to save the image as-is and convert it here in a couple of seconds. A handy trick: copy the image in your browser (right-click › Copy image) and paste it on this page with Ctrl+V — the tool converts it straight away without saving the WebP file first. Got lots of images? Drag them all in at once and download them as a ZIP.
Frequently asked questions
Why do the images I download save as WebP?
Because websites serve them as WebP to load faster. Your browser saves the file exactly as it received it.
Do I lose quality converting WebP to JPG?
Very little. At 90% quality the difference isn't visible. Keep in mind you can't recover detail that was already lost when the WebP was created.
What happens to the WebP's transparency?
JPG doesn't support transparency, so it's filled with the background color you pick (white by default). To keep it, convert to PNG.
Can I convert animated WebP files?
The first frame of the animation is converted to a still JPG image.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes, it works on Android and iPhone in the browser, with no app to install.
Is there a file limit?
No. Convert as many images as you like — free and with no sign-up.
